A single axis tracker can increase power generation between 25% to 35%, so it is usually used in utility-scale projects. It can follow the position of the sun from east to west using motor and gear box system. For flat-panel photovoltaic systems, trackers are used to minimize the angle of incidence between the incoming sunlight and a photovoltaic panel, sometimes known as the cosine error.
